Durham Children’s Initiative Holiday Zone

Help Bring the Holidays Home to the Families, Children, and Youth of Durham!

On Saturday, December 12, 2020, the Durham Children’s Initiative (DCI) will host its annual Holiday Zone available to all families currently served by DCI. The event will be held at the DCI office (2101 Angier Ave.) at the corner of S. Driver Street and Angier Ave in East Durham.

If you’re interested in supporting this great event, we encourage you to consider the following opportunities:

1) Sponsor your own holiday drive here and further your impact! On sponsored drives, DCI gets an additional 5% back on every purchase. Email eventspecialist@yougivegoods.com or call 877-526-4483 x107 for help with set up.

2) Donate Toys via this Toy Drive. Donating goods is easy! Click on SHOP NOW to purchase the goods you would like to donate. You will be emailed a tax receipt at the time of purchase. All goods ordered online will be shipped directly to DCI after the drive ends.

3) Make monetary donations to DCI to purchase toys and event supplies here

4) Volunteer (help shop, decorate, wrap gifts or act as a personal shopper at the event  – socially distanced, of course).
For more information about the DCI Holiday Zone or to learn more about the opportunities listed above, please contact Eboni Garvin at 919-433-7239 or eboni.garvin@dci-nc.org.

DCI staff and supporters are collecting new, unwrapped toys and/or books for children and youth ages birth to 18 to create an inventory of gifts from which parents enrolled in our core programs may select, free of charge, an extra treasure or two for each of their children this holiday season. Last year, over 225 families participated in the event, and we distributed over 2,500 new books and toys for parents and caregivers to give to their children or children under their care.

It is our hope that by offering this special opportunity to parents, we will encourage even more families in Durham to participate in DCI Programs like the Family Advocate Program, which provides a link between parents, students, schools, and other community-based programs. DCI and our partners help families, children, and youth in Durham become ready for college or a career by walking alongside them and connecting them to needed or desired resources. Our Advocates have been shown to impact student school attendance, behavior, and academic performance by increasing parent engagement at home and at school.

Thank you! Your contributions will brighten the holiday of area kids and strengthen our community by helping others in need.

Online prices include shipping, handling and YouGiveGoods services.
