Durham Public Schools will launch its “3-2-1 Work-Based Learning Initiative” in August 2019, with the purpose of helping build your local talent pipeline, close the skills gap for critical positions, and connect Durham youth to high demand, high wage jobs.
Beginning with this fall’s 9th grade class, by the time they graduate, all DPS students will complete at least:
- 3 career awareness activities
- 2 career exposure activities
- 1 job or internship experience
DPS is seeking corporate partners to offer guest speakers, worksite visits, internships and other work-based experiences for students. Companies such as BlueCross and BlueShield of NC, GlaxoSmithKline, and Duke University Health System have already stepped up to support.
