Local, State and Federal  Legislative Committee

Our Local, State and Federal Legislative Committee is the first stop within the Chamber on positions taken related to legislative items, bond or sales tax campaigns and/or endorsements. This committee is designed to provide an overview on current and future issues related to businesses as they develop within local, state and federal government circles.

Chamber staff ensures that committee members have the opportunity to hear from a variety of State leaders.  Past guests include: N.C. State Treasurer, Janet Cowell, Secretary of the N.C. Department of Commerce, J. Keith Crisco, Congressman David Price (D-4th Congressional Dist.), Durham City and County Manager’s along with administrative staff from Durham City and County government.

The committee meets on the second Tuesday of the month, at 8:15 am at the Chamber offices. Meetings are free and open to all.

Transportation Committee

The Durham Chamber is one of the only chambers in the region to have a committee specifically focused on transportation issues.  Transit is extremely important to future development within the Research Triangle Region. It is projected that by 2025, one million people will be added to the current population.

The Chamber’s Transportation Committee meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month, at noon, at the Chamber offices. This meeting is free and open to the public.  Committee members include local elected officials, transit advocates, agency heads, business owners, staff of local, state and federal government offices and agencies as well as administrative staff from the Research Triangle Park and local universities.

Presentations are given from transit experts. Past topics include a look at local, state and regional transit plans, legislative updates from the North Carolina Department of Transportation and new technology used for multimodal purposes.

For more information or to reserve your seat at an upcoming committee meeting, please contact John White at jwhite@durhamchamber.org.
