WAKA Kickball recently opened a brand new corporate kickball league in Durham, North Carolina to meet the needs of local companies looking to find ways to engage their employees.

This new league will play on Tuesday nights in Durham at Southern Boundaries Park starting on Sept. 9, 2014. The season will last for 8 weeks and teams will compete weekly against other area companies. In addition to kickball games, WAKA Kickball also offers several opportunities during the season for players to socialize, attend events at fun local places, and get involved in the community. WAKA’s community non-profit partner for 2014 is Habitat for Humanity ReStore.

“Playing kickball has improved my work life by giving me a chance to get outside and be active, let go of a little stress, and forge new personal and working relationships,” said Kelly Truncer, a Blue Cross Blue Shield North Carolina employee who has participated in more than five WAKA Kickball Durham league seasons.

Current registered teams in this new WAKA Kickball Durham corporate league include UNC Healthcare, Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina, Duke University, Duke Hospital, and Cisco but there is plenty of room for more groups to join.

“This new Durham corporate kickball league option will give companies a chance to offer a healthy, engaging activity for their employees,” said Cindy Honickman, WAKA Kickball Durham Organizer. “I have seen firsthand how bonding with co-workers after work can increase productivity and teamwork in the workplace.”
