Durham County Commission Vice Chair Brenda Howerton has been appointed to the National Association of Counties (NACo) International Economic Development Task Force for the 2014-2015 term . The appointment was made last month by NACo President Riki Hokama.

According to Hokama, “Committee leadership at the National Level is a serious commitment and a big responsibility, even more so this year with a federal administration engaged in developing policy on a number of issues facing counties.”

Howerton will serve in the newly appointed role for the 2014-2015 term.

According to the NACo webpage, the International Economic Development Task Force facilities the exchange of information, ideas and resources, and guides NACo programming, concerning county-level engagement in international economic development activities.

Howerton was first elected to the Durham Board of County Commissioners in 2008 and is currently serving her second term. She has served as vice chair of the Commission since December 2012.  She serves on a number of local, state and regional commission, including NACo’s Community, Economic and Workforce Development Steering Committee.
