Schedule regular community service events

Your team probably already gathers for regular company meetings. Why not make the next team building event a service project? Think of where your strengths as a company lie and what your employees’ interests might be. If you own a marketing agency, offer to do a simple pro bono site for a local non-profit. If your team really loves spending time outside, but rarely has the opportunity, perhaps you could get involved building a Habitat home or run to support your favorite nonprofit. The possibilities are endless!

Encourage knowledge sharing within the community

If you have carved out your niche and are particularly skilled in your area of expertise, why not share the wealth? If anything, you will become known as the local industry expert! For our industry, we recognize the importance of green technology so we set up a $1,000 scholarship fund for students majoring in Environmental Technology or Engineering. Give your customers the option to get involved

Why not give your customers the local option? You can do this by donating a percentage of your profits for any given month to a chosen philanthropy, or you can simply ask customers if they would like to donate at the time of purchase. If you are opposed to getting financially involved, you can always simply raise awareness. As a successful local business owner, you are already looked to for reliable services, products, or ideas; by encouraging others to get involved, your trusted voice might make all the difference.
