C.F.D {Creative Food Drive} is a community charity event/competition where local professionals and students will put their creativity to the test by designing and constructing anything they can imagine out of non-perishable food items. Submissions will be judged and all items will be donated to the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina at Durham. For more information visit www.creativefooddrive.weebly.com.   I’m honored to be one of the judges for what will surely become a cool Durham tradition.  After all, combining creative output and giving back to the community is VERY Durham.  With events like this, no wonder people fall in love with Durham!!

(Durham, NC)  The general public is invited to join members of Durham’s vibrant entrepreneurial community October 15 from 2 to 6 p.m. for the first annual C.F.D {Creative Food Drive} to benefit the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina.

Local breweries, food vendors, and musicians will be participating in this free event at the Durham Farmers Market which features a competition between 16 teams designing and constructing any type of standalone “sculptures” they can conceptualize made out of non-perishable food items.

“We’ve got some of Durham’s most popular food trucks and some great musical acts to draw in a crowd that wants to celebrate the community and support a worthy cause,” George Hining of MHAworks Architecture, one of the organizers of the event, said.

Brett Harris, Lizzy Ross Band, and LiLa will be performing. Local breweries Fullsteam, Bull City Burger and Brewery, and Triangle Brewing Company will be selling drinks while food vendors include Pie Pushers, DaisyCakes, Will & Pop’s, Blue Sky Dining, Farmhand Foods, The Parlour Ice Cream, Slippin’ Sliders and LoYo Yogurt.

There is no charge to attend the event, but the public is asked to bring non-perishable food items to contribute. The competition, music and food collection will take place at the Durham Farmers Market at 501 Foster Street, next to the historic Durham Bulls Stadium from 2 to 6 p.m.
