This is an update to a previous post regarding last weekend’s Creative Food Design (CFD) event held at the Farmers Market Pavilion downtown.  As one of four judges, I have to say, it was a very cool event to be part of and the entries were quite creative.

The winner in the Most Creative category was an entry designed and built by The Republik, which was a cockroach constructed entirely of spaghetti packages and cans of baked beans – a nod to the company’s tagline, Change or Die.  But, I want to give a shout out to all of the entrants for kicking off the first year, and setting the bar for future designs.

Here’ a complete list of the winners:

Most Difficult: LeChase Construction
Most Creative: The Republik
Most Food Raised: LeChase Construction
Best Overall: Semprius
People’s Choice: Brasco Design and Marketing

The Durham Food Bank was the beneficiary of the CFD event and raised 9,600 pounds of food!  This translates to 8,169 meals to people in the community which equals three meals a day for 2,700 people.  The show was emceed by Frank Stasio, there was music on the lawn, and a good time was had all around.  I’m counting on this to become a Durham tradition, so look for it in 2012.
