Less than a month ago, 10-digit dialing began in the 919 area code. Since that time, the number of misdials to 911 has greatly increased.
Should you accidentally dial 911 instead of 919, please do not hang up when you reach the emergency center. Instead, stay on the line and tell the dispatcher that you misdialed. This will enable the 911 center to serve you and your community better by not having to call you back or actually dispatch a law enforcement officer to confirm that you do not actually need emergency assistance.
If you have questions, please contact the company which provides your local service. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in the change of making local calls.
